My Parade Essay!
Hi, friends! Happy back-to-school to all who celebrate! I love, love, love summer, so I’m clinging to this last few weeks of the season, all while embracing that freshly sharpened pencil smell and a favorite annual tradition: shopping for school supplies! So much is going on around here that I can’t wait to tell you about below. From a great vacation to a big book sale, TV news, and more. But, for now, I hope you’ll check out this column I wrote for Parade about how my own family beach weeks inspired my latest novel, Beach House Rules. You can read on Parade, or, if you prefer to listen, I’ve read it aloud for you above! And if you haven’t read the book yet, here’s a little more about it:
Life doesn’t always go according to plan. But sometimes, the detour is the best part. When Charlotte and her daughter Iris move into the “mommune,” Alice Bailey’s beachfront former bed and breakfast, now also home to two other moms and their children, she doesn’t yet know that they will form bonds that will change them unalterably, completely, forever. She doesn’t know that each of the women and children that come into her life were a missing piece in her story that will not only heal her but who will also help her move forward into the next chapter.

EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, Hulu has landed for development The Summer Of Songbirds, a drama series inspired by the bestselling novel by Kristy Woodson Harvey. The project hails from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and 20th Television.
Adapted by Brennan Peters (The Power), The Summer of Songbirds is a story about the power of forged family — the family we choose, the family we fight to keep, again and again. It revolves around three girlfriends and their unbreakable bond forged in their childhood summers spent in North Carolina. Now in their 30s, each grappling with the harsh realities of adulthood, they’re forced to confront secrets and betrayals from both the past and present that threaten to unravel their chosen family.
