Working at Downtown Books!

Only being able to live once is kind of a shame, isn’t it? Because there is SO MUCH TO DO! So many places to see, so many adventures to have, so many experiences… For the most part, I’ve never felt too hampered by this. If there are 100 places you want to travel and 50 other cool things you want to check off your list, that’s pretty doable in a lifetime, right?

But jobs are a little bit different. For the most part, at some point, it seems like you sort of have to choose one and stick with it if you want to keep advancing and eventually reach the top. I’m good with that because I’m all about a goal and an end-point, but, sometimes, I think about other jobs that, growing up, I thought would be so much fun, that I could pictures myself doing.

I’m willing to bet that after You’ve Got Mail came out, about half the world dreamed of opening their own Shop Around the Corner. I was part of that half of the world–and it wasn’t just because I somehow assumed that it would transform me into Meg Ryan; it was because I wanted to work in a bookstore!

And now my dream is coming true because my friends at Downtown Books in Manteo invited me to come work in their store next Saturday, November 28, to celebrate Small Business Saturday! Isn’t that so awesome? So, for a few hours, I’ll get to actually live in someone else’s shoes, recommending books and chatting with book lovers. (And I’ll be on hand to sign Dear Carolina, of course!) I am unendingly grateful for the crazy love that Downtown Books and Duck’s Cottage have poured on Dear Carolina, so that makes me even more excited! Screen Shot 2015-11-22 at 9.09.41 PM

And I’ll be signing Dear Carolina at their sister store, Duck’s Cottage Books, on Friday from 3-5. Isn’t that most fun? I’m so, so excited! If you’re in the Outer Banks over your Thanksgiving weekend please come by and tell these fabulous indies how thankful you are for them and start your holiday shopping off right.

If you aren’t in the area, no worries! Visit the Duck’s Cottage website, and they will send you ANY book you want–including signed copies of Dear Carolina–for only 99 cents. Can’t beat that!

Whatever your holiday holds, wishing you so, so much joy and plenty to be thankful for!
