Tiaras and Running for President

The countdown is on! Three weeks until Dear Carolina is released. A year ago, it felt that this was never going to happen. Eleven months ago it felt like it was forever away. And now it’s here, and I can’t believe it. I alternate between feeling totally at peace that I have done everything I can do and totally panicked that it’s not going to sell a single copy. So… That’s fun. But if I wasn’t a bit of a basket case that would probably mean I didn’t care, right?

Anyway, you have to watch this video of my author friend Erin Celello’s little boy. It is so hilarious. He is sobbing after the announcement that Hilary is running for president because he wants to be president. And, in typical toddler fashion, NOW. I don’t know the definition of “going viral,” but this is about as close as I’ve ever seen!

In other super exciting news, I’ve had sort of a life goal come true this week. Kathy Murphy of the fabulous Pulpwood Queens named Dear Carolina the “bonus book” in her August 2015 book club picks. I think book clubs are the coolest things ever and Kathy is in charge of 600 Pulpwood book clubs. So it makes me really excited to think that some of them will be reading Dear Carolina! And, now I get to go to her Girlfriends Weekend in Nacogdoches, TX. Everything is bigger in Texas and, at the Pulpwood Queens Girlfriends Weekend, the hair is the biggest thing of all, as evidenced by the cover of Kathy’s fab book. (That’s her front and center.) They’re making a movie about her as we speak. Pretty cool.

Who doesn’t look better with big hair?

I get to dress up as a fairy on Friday night, be on a cool panel, and, on Saturday, attend the Cinderella Big Hair Ball dressed as my favorite Disney princess. Well, obviously, I’m going to go as Cinderella. It’s a role I have dreamed of my entire life. And I was born for it. It will go perfectly with my tiara. Kathy doesn’t have a lot of rules but that’s one: You must, must wear a tiara. Again: Born. For. It.

And see? You thought I was going to be telling you about some boring author event! If you’ve ever met Kathy, you learn pretty quick that “boring” isn’t something she does! So I’ll be counting down the days between now and January.

Anyone want to come with? I’ll spring for your tiara!

Have a great day, y’all!!

  • I’ll vote for him!!!!!
    That’s perfect!

Congratulations on your going to the Big Hair Cinderella Ball!!! Don’t forget your tiara! Pictures please!
The book is almost out…can’t wait for mine to come in the mail….See you on the 11th…..
    xo

  • I’ll come with you, but the big hair might be a problem for me 🙂 Speaking of Cinderella, have you seen the new movie yet? It’s fabulous……but I cried about 6 times (some sad tears, some happy tears).

    • I haven’t seen it! I’ll have to now to brush up on my Cinderella!

  • Kristy,
I am laughing still at the toddler video and of course, the picture on the cover of the Pulpwood Queens’ book! We lived in Texas and I could never manage to get my hair as big as I would have liked, but I love the moxy most Texas women naturally have—it’s in the water.
    I have several tiara’s, having Granddaughters, it’s a requirement.
Have a blast and be sure to report back to us!
    xo,
    Karen
P.S. You can be Cinderella if I can be Sleeping Beauty…she was always my dream Disney princess.

    • Oh, YAY! You should come and be Sleeping Beauty, Karen 🙂 We can take photos together! Haha!

  • Kristy, I’m sure of two things – 1) That you will look absolutely gorgeous in your tiara and 2) That Dear Carolina will sell tons of copies. Can’t wait to get mine.

Have fun at the Pulpwood Queens event! XOXO

    • I hope you’re right, Jeanne! (Especially about number two… My tiara-wearing opportunities are pretty few and far between 🙂 )
