Sunday Brunch and a Good Book

Eileen Goudge

Hi, friends! I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend! We had a leisurely Sunday, beginning with a yummy brunch. I woke up to noise in the kitchen and walked in to find my two Wills with a fresh batch of croissants (or “proissants” as the little one calls them) surrounded by jam, molasses, butter and two different kinds of honey. They were having a “tasting” they told me. Plain butter won, if you are interested. Will made bacon and eggs while I made green juice (can’t spell “Southern brunch” without kale…) and grain-free, vegan muffins. Both meals were delicious, though my husband pronounced mine “un-American.” I didn’t say it, but last time I checked croissants are not a super American food. But man, oh man did they smell yummy…

And, speaking of yummy, Garden of Lies by Eileen Goudge is just that as well. I positively devoured it. Seriously. It was one of those books that your fly through so fast, but, then, around those last twenty pages or so, you read so slowly because you don’t want it to end.

It brings up so many questions about love and loyalty, motherhood and the choices we make in a moment that end up defining the rest of our life.

This was Eileen’s first book (and she has written a kajillion since!) but I love to read an author’s older books before I read their newer ones because I like to see how they evolve as a writer over time. I can’t imagine that, as incredible as her first novel was, how amazing the next ones must be. And I especially can’t wait to start her new Cypress Bay Mystery Series!

I already knew that I would let Eileen write for me any old time. But now I know that I would also let her deliver my baby, try my court case and fight beside me in the trenches. She writes about so many different occupations and situations with such ease and specificity that you are positive she has experienced all of them firsthand.

So talented. And so nice. It doesn’t get any better than that! I could rave all night, but I just got the little guy to bed. So I have to go download another of Eileen’s amazing books!

Don’t forget that today is the last day to participate in the fabulous giveaway for Rodin’s Lover.

  • Kristy,
I love books like what you’ve described of Eileen’s. 100%, I have to read an authors books from earliest to latest. {I’m looking forward to doing same with your upcoming release!} Cypress Bay sounds exciting, I love a good series, that way, when the book is great and you’re on that last 20 pages, you can read knowing there will be a follow up book down the road.
I really appreciate the introductions you’ve provided us with, so many great books.
    xo,
    Karen

    • So true about the series, Karen! I’d never even thought of that… Now I’m even more excited!

  • Mmm, your breakfast “tasting” sounds yummy and fun. Croissants vs. kale? Good for you for making the healthy choice. I keep seeing Eileen Goudge’s books and meaning to read them. This is the nudge I need to just start with her first one and get hooked from there.
