I absolutely love historical fiction. Do you? Being transported into another time period and place… I firmly believe that I would remember a lot more about history if my teachers had assigned me some of these fabulous novels to read! The dates and the places are so much clearer in my mind when I “know” a character that has lived in them.

There are a few modern day masters of historical fiction, and Heather Webb is most definitely one of them. Her new novel, Rodin’s Lover will be released from Plume/Penguin on January 27. And she is giving one of us the chance to win a copy before it even hits the shelves! SO fun!

Here’s a little more about the book:

A mesmerizing tale of art and passion in Belle Époque France

As a woman, aspiring sculptor Camille Claudel has plenty of critics, especially her ultra-traditional mother. But when Auguste Rodin makes Camille his apprentice—and his muse—their passion inspires groundbreaking works. Yet, Camille’s success is overshadowed by her lover’s rising star, and her obsessions cross the line into madness. Rodin’s Lover brings to life the volatile love affair between one of the era’s greatest artists and a woman entwined in a tragic dilemma she cannot escape.

The early reviews for this book are just fabulous!

“Webb’s subject is fascinating…readers will find themselves hunting up encyclopedias and visiting museums to learn more about Camille Claudel and Auguste Rodin…An entertaining guide that will take readers in and out of the salons and studios of 19th-century Paris and introduce them to one of history’s most tragic and unsung rebels.”-Kirkus Book Reviews

“You’ll be drawn into this story of obsession and passion between artist and his apprentice/muse.”-Cosmopolitan

“A textured historical novel that captures the indomitable spirit of artist Camille Claudel, a woman whose mighty talent was nearly eclipsed by her potent love for fellow artist Auguste Rodin. A story of human emotion, once raw and malleable, now preserved to lasting stone.”
Sarah McCoy, New York Times bestselling author of The Baker’s Daughter
