Memorial Day and BEA!

Screen Shot 2015-05-26 at 9.48.43 AM

I hope you had an amazing Memorial Day weekend! We had a blast. Here’s the fam all reading Dear Carolina on the beach. Or, you know, looking like we are! It was such a gorgeous weekend at the beach, and we spent a little time on the boat, a little time at the beach, a little time at the pool and a little time at the fabulous Beaufort Linen Company signing Dear Carolina. It was so much fun. We said I was going to sign until the champagne ran out… But we sold out of books before we ran out of champagne! Now that’s a good feeling! Thanks for the love, Beaufort!

It was a good weekend to just feel grateful for the amazing sacrifices that so many men and women have made and continue to make so that we can be free to enjoy our families and live our lives however we choose.

Tomorrow it’s off to NYC for more book signing, a peek inside Book Expo America, and hanging out with some fun book bloggers and authors that I can’t wait to meet in real life!

Precious Christina who owns Beaufort Linen and me!

As you may remember, I took little Will with me on those first couple of weeks of book tour. I’ve had a lot of questions about what that was like. It was so fun because he was so good, but I thought I’d just give you a little peek inside traveling day after day after day with a three-year-old.

Me: “Okay, buddy, let’s get dressed. You need to wear the outfit Mommy laid out for you.”

Will: “But I don’t want to wear khaki pants. I want to wear cargo shorts.”

Me, maturely avoiding toddler meltdown: “Fine. Wear the cargo shorts. Let’s just hurry. You need to go to the potty before you get dressed.”

Will: “I don’t have to go to the potty.”

Me: “Well, you need to try anyway.”

Mom: “Do I need to bring wine for this one?”

Me: “Yes. And wonder where I put the notes for the talk I’m doing?”

Mom and I load wine, ice, water, napkins, snacks, trays, cups, champagne flutes, flowers (water sloshing in the vases), signs, extra books, sippy cups, snacks and extra outfits into the car.

Me: “Will, we seriously have to go or we’re going to be late. Did you go to the potty?”

Will: “Mommy, I don’t need to go to the potty.”

Me: “Fine. We just need to go. Let’s get in the car.”

I get him strapped in the carseat. Mom hands him a sippy cup, which inevitably leads to, “B.B. (what he calls Mom) I didn’t want water, I wanted juice.” Or vice versa.

Me: “We’ll get juice when we get there.”

Mom: “I think I forgot my cell phone.” (Sorry, Mom. True story.)

I sigh, call her phone as she runs back inside to find it and appears a few minutes later.

Back in the car. Seatbelts on. I start to pull out of the driveway.

Will: “Mommy, I need to go potty.”

He’s lucky he’s cute.

HOW women do this with multiple children, I’ll never know. But we made it, we had fun, and I’d venture to say that my little one learned quite a bit on our journey. But it’s far from over!

I can’t wait to fill you in on the week. What do you have going on this week?

  • Will is so smart, and so cute! Glad your livin’ the life with the success of your book, but I know all the hard-work and love you’ve given to this one, so you truly deserve it dear! Enjoy!

  • Kristy,
It looks like you had Chamber of Commerce weather for Memorial Day weekend. I loved the picture with the family all in a row with Dear Carolina in front of their faces. 🙂
I cracked up at the dialog between Will and you…it brought back such fun memories (well, not always fun at the time!).
I’m so happy, and not the least bit surprised, that the book has been such a hit. Way to go!
    xo,
    Karen

  • This is so real, but funny. My days are over with really young ones. I feel for you. They are so precious, so they get away with a lot.
I am so proud of you. You re doing an amazing job, and the book is amazing.
My eye is better, and I am getting back to semi normal, so expect a review soon.
