Happy Fall!

This post was supposed to go up yesterday! But in a very unwelcome surprise our internet went out… Ahhh! Back in action today!

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you all had an amazing one. The weather here was absolutely glorious, and, thank goodness, because it was such a fun, outdoor weekend! This weekend marked the five year anniversary of Mother Earth Brewing, an amazing, award-winning brewery in downtown Kinston, where I live. The weekend was filled with bands and food and fun and friends. We had yummy, chili-down-your-arm burgers at the Boiler Room Oyster Bar, fabulous, James Beard cuisine at Chef and the Farmer (both restaurants owned by Vivian Howard and Ben Knight, the stars of A Chef’s Life!) and generally relished in all the amazing things that our town has to offer. It was a good reminder that bigger is most certainly not always better.

My sweet and talented author friend Whitney Grady had me on her blog, which was such a great treat!

And yesterday was the perfect way to cap off the weekend by hanging out with friends at the beautiful Brothers Farm. We have long gotten our produce from Warren and Jane, the owners of the farm that is now a charming, warm and totally lovely bed and breakfast as well. Little Will had a blast throwing pears to the (400 pound!) pigs, digging sweet potatoes and took home about a 10-foot tall stalk of sorghum. It was one of those lazy days, like a comma in a life that can sometimes feel a little too hectic. It was one of those kind of afternoons where you leave thinking, “Maybe we should move to a farm…” completely forgetting that farming very difficult and totally time consuming!

We were reminded why fall is such a fantastic season. And hope that your fall is just the same!

  • Your weekend sounds so fun, and probably exactly what a busy girl like you needed! I’m off to a farm stand with my girls this afternoon, just to get out and enjoy a pretty fall day. Homework can wait. 🙂

  • This sounds like a weekend out of a novel. Farm life sounds fun, the animals, room to grow your own food, but you are right, it also sounds like hard work—unless you have the funds to hire workers! 🙂
Don’t you just love this time of year?

    • I do love it, Karen! Also, I’m a disaster at growing my own food… The only option is to hire people that can keep green things alive!
