Halloween and NaNoWriMo!

Ghosts, goblins, witches, me not having internet for practically an entire week… What do these things have in common? They’re all scary! Fortunately, I’m (finally!) back in action today and have missed you guys this week! I hope you’re all having an amazing Halloween so far and have fun plans tonight. I’m pretty excited not to be dressing up tonight and to get to hang out in Beaufort with my family, do a little Trick or Treating with my tiny fireman and pass out some candy. I think this must make me old…

Anyway, I can’t believe November is almost here. Where has this year gone? It feels like five minutes ago that we were celebrating New Year’s and we’re almost back to Thanksgiving again. What?!

November is also home to another holiday-ish thing — NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. The gist is that you write a novel in a month! Well, 50,000 words of one, anyway. I’ve never participated, but, this year, I think I might. Generally, you’re supposed to plan out your novel before November and then spend the month writing it. Since I don’t plan my novels, this should be interesting! I’m definitely not an outliner. At any rate, I’m pretty excited for the motivation to really get cruising on this next book.

Last year I sort of took December “off” to hang out and be a mom and make cookies and do crafts and try to generally be fun and not a wreck. So getting this new novel (well, really, it’s about half of a novel…) behind me before then would be great. Because I definitely want December off again!

Have you ever wanted to write a novel? If so, this is the month to try it! Let me know if you do, so we can cheer each other on!

But we can worry about writing our novels tomorrow… For now, I’m off to eat yet a little more Halloween candy. Whether you’re dressing up or no, wishing a wonderful night!

  • So funny! The thought of writing a novel makes me more than wild! I can hardly write this blog! Hope you get everything done so you can enjoy December.
ps….I never went nuts over Halloween. Adults didn’t back in the “olden” days, just the little kiddies.

    • Oh good, Patty! I think now if you don’t celebrate a holiday for a month and do at least 15 Pinterest-inspired projects you feel like a deficient mom! Haha!

  • Kristy,
What a fun motivation for you talented writers. I have faith you can do it, not to mention it will be fun to have December free to enjoy the holidays, especially with your family and little one…there’s nothing better.
Halloween was very fun here, but very light as far as goblins visits go. One tiny tyke was dressed like Spiderman so after he selected his candy I said, “goodbye Spiderman” and he said I’m not Spiderman, I’m only wearing a Spiderman costume, my name is Grant!” He couldn’t have been more than 4. Mr. B and I cracked up.
    Enjoy this weekend.

    • That is so adorable! Love it! We didn’t have many trick or treaters either… But it’s hard to go trick or treating and then still get home in time for people to still be out and about. But I am so mad because I have ALL THIS CANDY left over! Haha!
